Dirt jumping legend Shaun Butler gets super rad on "tits" at Sheep Hills. There's just something comforting about his style. He is also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
I appreciate Pete Rock & CL Smooth. IMO, PR is the greatest hip hop producer there has ever been. I think his nac for choosing and seamlessly mixing smooth samples with funky bass lines sets him apart from other greats like DJ Premier and RZA. And nothing compliments his silky smooth beats better than CL's silky smooth lyrics. As long as there are people who make and appreciate music like this... hip hop will never die.
My 5 favorite Pete Rock and CL Smooth tracks:
1) They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y) 2) One In A Million 3) Straighten It Out 4) Appreciate 5) All the Places
(my ex girl once told me I remind her of John Cusack in High Fidelity because I'm always declaring lists like this... but, who doesn't? :)
Tyler gets a twofer for steez of the week. Same day, same park, different hip. If I could only do two tricks for the rest of my days, it would be these two.
Sorry there has been a lack of dirt pics lately. One of our trail spots is still in recovery after the thrashing it took from mother nature a few weeks back. And, the new bike park has been eating away at some quality shovel time (Jake likes to call it the "Lazy Maker"). There was some good that came from all that rain, though. An old spot has been resurrected and sculpted into uber radness. That's trail boss Eliot Jackson up top with loads of trail steez. Nick, myself, and Brett The Turbo Booster are posted below. Jake's super-dooper photog skillz captured the action.
We went out to The Compound last weekend expecting the dirt jumps to be up and running. Well, they weren't, but we had a blast in the park. The new park setup is incredible. Tons of box jumps, wedges, quarters, spines, and wall rides spaced out all over the place. It really is setup for bikes, unlike most parks that are built for skateboards. I spent most of the day working on one foot tables... they're still not where I want them to be, but they're getting better. They were working on the trails while we were there. Hopefully, they will be up and running this weekend for the contest that they're having. Our best wishes go out to Compound local and super shredder Thomas Hancock. He broke his fibula during a contest out at Ray's. Heal up quick, man!!
I first saw this a year ago or so. It's still one of most amazing things I've ever seen. So fast and so funky and only 12 years old. Stick with it, the best stuff is towards the end.
This silky smooth song by Souls of Mischief was supposed to be on their 1995 album No Man's Land. The sample is from the theme song to the 70s/80s tv show Taxi. Unfortunately, they weren't able to obtain clearance for the sample, so the song did not make the record. One of the cool things about the mp3/youtube era is that we now have easy access to great songs like this.
