Icepick Of Death

Brian Terada is a bad ass. The top of that wall is probably about 8 feet above the deck and maybe 15 to 20 feet above the floor. I don't think anybody else even thought it was possible to get up there, let alone have the balls to try. Brian made it look easy.

Dig It
This Fuel TV spot with Fuzzy and Aitken is sweet. Only Aitken can combine 3 of the raddest tricks into one super trick.
Old Faithful

We should start calling Brett "Old Faithful" because you can always count on some insane style from this guy. His inverts are like a ninja move on a bicycle.

Can't Stop The Prophet
Prophet's epic battle against Ignorance, Hatred, Jealousy and Envy.
"One day I got struck by knowledge of self
They gave me super scientifical powers
Now I, run through the ghetto
Battling my arch nemesis Mr. Ignorance
He's been trying to take me out since the days of my youth
He feared this day would come
I'm hot on his trail
But sometimes he slips away, because he has an army
They always give me trouble
mainly Hatred, Jealousy and Envy they attack me
They think they got me
But I use my super science and I twist all three
I see sparks over that building
They're shooting at me
I dip, do a back flip
Then I hit 'em in the heart with sharp skilled book marks
Ignorance hates when I drop it
But no matta what he do
He can't stop the prophet."
There's a pretty interesting rhyme deconstruction of this song right here, if you're into that sort of thing.

Criteria
My good friend Mike Sweeney is the drummer in the band Criteria. They are signed with Saddle Creek Records, the indie label that is home to some bands you may have heard of like Cursive, The Faint, and Bright Eyes. The last I heard, Criteria may be done for a while, if not permanently. They spent the better part of two years touring the US, building a decent sized following and selling out many shows. It's crazy to think how many bands are out there like this. Bands that achieve modest success locally and even nationally, but just don't quite "make it" enough to make a living out of it. But, I can't blame them for trying. If it's what you love, why not pursue it with everything you've got? Rock on.
MLK Day
Can you believe I had to work on Martin Luther King Jr. Day? If you have never seen the I Have A Dream speech in it's entirety, I highly recommend you do so. It is widely considered one of the greatest speeches in history. Sadly, almost 50 years after this speech, there is still too much racial and cultural ignorance that exists in this country.

Steez Of The Week

OK, I'm starting something called "Steez Of The Week." It will be a pic (taken from anywhere I can find it) of something insanely steezed out. We will definitely try to keep the stream of original photos from our crew (that might even make it to steez of the week). But, this will help break it up and add some more content to the site. AND, if you have a pic that you think is Steez Of The Week worthy, email it to me (JeremyJCombs@gmail.com) and I might just post it up, but keep in mind that this is strictly for the sickest of sickness.
Unfortunately, it all just may be downhill from here. I'm not sure if it's possible to get any more steezed out than this pic of Chris Doyle. As Zach Dank put it, this is probably the sickest 3 in the history 3's. Doyle Rules.

That's Bretty Boy almost running out of wall at a super-top-secret-cross-your-heart-hope-to-die bike park. Atleast for awhile.

Dirt Quarter

I'll try not steal stuff from other blogs that often, but Landon over at Tonic Fab posted up a pic of the raddest dirt quarter I have ever seen. Apparently it's down in New Zealand. That's some good lookin' dirt down under (does New Zealand count as down under?). And if you didn't already know, it'd be hella good for your steez to check up on the Tonic Fab blog on the regular.

So Much Beauty In Dirt
For some of us, the title of this song has a special meaning. Modest Mouse rocks. I especially like some of their older stuff. Check it out if you're not that familiar with them. Somebody should use this song for a trail segment in a vid. It'd be epic.

1/2 Nothing?

I'll give Mikey the benefit of the doubt on this one and say he was trying a nothing... or, maybe Jake just had bad timing. But, regardless, Mikey was out at the trails last week showing off his new bike and his new kicks. That's a Shadow Invisible Man cruiser.
It's a good thing he got some riding time in last week, because the rain this past weekend blasted our trails. There's a creek next to the trails that turned into a raging river. The river almost completely washed away a few of the lips, landings, and berms. There was deep standing water (with fish) in the bottom of every bowl. It's definitely going to take a few weeks of hard work to get them rideable again. We thought about the potential problem when we were building so close to the creek. But, 99% of the time it is so dry around here that any rain is appreciated. We thought, at worst, a few jumps might get flooded and just need time to dry out. We definitely didn't expect whole lines to be washed away. But, you live, you learn. Now we get to rebuild a few jumps to be even bigger and better!

The Shadow Percussion Project
If you're a fan of DJ Shadow, you will probably appreciate this. If not, you probably won't get it at all. This a high school percussion ensemble's attempt to recreate parts of DJ Shadow's groundbreaking album, Endtroducing. While the execution definitely isn't flawless, the idea is awesome and they really do a decent job considering the complexity of some of the parts. Since when were band teachers this cool?
